If you live in the Rockford area, nothing says fall quite like apples.
In fact, apple orchards are the first sign of fall being near.

It typically goes like this:
The apple orchard opens, all things turn to pumpkin spice, the temperature drops, you get to wear all the layers, and sip warm drinks in front of the fire.

But did you know that we have at least 5 apple orchards in the Rockford area?

Make it your personal mission to visit every one with the kids this fall! And gobble up some donuts. Those delicious, amazing, apple cider donuts. Are you drooling just thinking about them? I am.

Edwards Apple Orchard

7061 Centerville Rd,  Poplar Grove, Illinois

9:00 am – 6:00 pm, 7 Days a week (Aug-Oct)
In November , 9:00am to 5:00pm

Edwards is probably the most well-known apple orchard in the Rockford area and a family tradition for many.
At Edwards, you can browse the shop and taste test many of the products.

Mmmmm…

You can also check out the little petting zoo, feed the goats and play on the playground. And during the right time of year the Pick-ur-own apples and pumpkins are always a good time. But most people look forward to the donuts

Edwards Apple Orchard West

8218 Cemetery Rd, Winnebago, Illinois
9:00 am – 6:00 pm, 7 Days a week (Aug-Oct)
In November , 9:00am to 5:00pm

Yes! Edwards has two locations! Think of this one as the little sibling of the bigger orchard most people are familiar with. It features a lot of the same things as the Poplar Grove location, but on a smaller scale. If you think the crowds at Edwards Apple Orchard are too much with tots in tow, then check out Edwards West in Winnebago.

Curran’s Orchard

6385 Kilburn Avenue Rockford, Illinois 61103
7:00 am – 6:00 pm Mon-Fri, 9:00 am – 6:00 pm Sat-Sun

Curran’s Orchard is one of our favorite places to stop after a day playing at Lockwood Park. Their apple cider donuts are so good, they may even beat Edwards. We can’t say for sure just yet, that’s for a different post. The kids always love climbing the hay stacks and petting the goats. And their apple cider is to die for.

Valley Orchard

811 East State Street, Cherry Valley, Illinois
Mon-Sat • 9am-6pm Sunday • 10am-6pm

We love to visit Valley Orchard after attending one of Cherry Valley Public Library’s many amazing programs. They have some of the best tomatoes and raspberries we’ve ever tasted. And their U-Pick section never seems to be super picked over. Valley Orchard is definitely on the smaller side as far as local orchards go, but many prefer that to the big amusement park type orchards that have become popular in recent years. Their donuts are unique in that they are glazed as opposed to sugared which makes them stand out in our book!

Apple Hut

1718 W Walters Rd, Beloit, WI
8:00 am – 5:00 pm Tues – Sun (Late Aug-Oct)

Apple Hut is an orchard we just discovered and can’t wait to explore. It’s located in Beloit which is convenient for those living closer to the Stateline. We hear their donuts are amazing though, we can’t wait to add them to our list to try this year! They recently underwent some renovations and the updates look fabulous!

In November (Starting week of Nov. 6), closed Mondays and Tuesdays
Open 9:00am to 5:00pm Wednesday-Sunday

We know quite a few of you are willing to travel for your favorite orchards. This orchard is a little bit of a drive but well worth it if you want to experience a different style of orchard compared to the ones we have in Rockford. They host a bunch of fun events, like Cider Fest Weekend and a Haunted Maze. But the biggest draw, for us at least, is the corn maze! Every year it’s a different design, you can get lost for hours in there!
